JOYCE INNES

Biography

My working career has been interesting, varied and enjoyable...at least I think so!

My first role was as ground staff for Pan Am Airways at Prestwick before joining Britannia Airways in Luton as cabin crew. I then trained to become a Literacy Support teacher and subsequently an ESOL tutor. When my husband retired we took a 'gap year' and travelled extensively throughout Central and South America, Japan, South East Asia and finally India.

On our return I began working for the Family Planning Association on a project called Speakeasy which encouraged and supported parents and carers to talk honestly to their children about growing up, sexual health and related issues. My last role before retirement was as Project Manager for dates'n'mates a dating and friendship agency for people with learning disabilities.

Now retired from paid work I volunteer at Glasgow Medical School and present 1st and 2nd year medical students with various symptoms as a Simulated Patient in order to help them develop clear and empathetic communication skills. My other hat is as a volunteer usher at the GFT cinema, both these roles are an absolute joy and I still find time for SA work, of course!

I have a current basic Disclosure Scotland certificate. 3000 0000 0605 7058
